Union Gospel Mission (UGM)

Union Gospel Mission's (UGM) purpose has been to break and not perpetuate the cycle of homelessness. Desiring to put an end to homelessness, going beyond just free meals and safe beds to the underlying causes. UGM strives to affirm each person’s value and offer a pathway to a different life by offering healing for the whole person, sharing God's love and power, and getting people back to work.

The message is that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live. The message is hope and the promise is freedom. In Spokane County 1 in 5 children live in "food insecure" homes.

That means those families don't have enough food for every family member to lead a healthy life. This doesn't always mean that there is nothing to eat. But it can mean that children get smaller portions than they need, or parents aren't able to afford nutritious foods. This food insecurity threatens a child’s well-being and potential for success.

Food For Thought provides weekend meals for over 500 students each week to help improve school performance, academic success and cognitive development.
